Traffic but no leads: what to put on your B2B site when you have no testimonials
Publish what is verifiable, the work itself, the method, the named deliverables, the price, and who does the work, because a fabricated rating or stock-photo testimonial is legal exposure, not social proof. The FTC's rule on consumer reviews and testimonials bans fake and misleading reviews outright, so here the honest version is also the only compliant one.

The gap
Why do visitors read the page and leave?
Because by the time they land, they are not discovering you. They are checking you, for what you deliver, what it costs, who does the work, and whether any of it can be confirmed without an email.
01
They arrive late
Semrush's survey of US B2B buyers, run in March and April 2026, reports that 92% say AI tools influence their shortlist and 75% trust AI recommendations. Semrush sells SEO software, so read it as a vendor surveying its own market. The comparison happens before the visit.
02
They click less
The Pew Research Center, in a study published on 22 July 2025, found Google users clicked a result on 8% of visits where an AI summary appeared, against 15% of visits without one. Pew is independent and measured behaviour, not opinion.
03
They check, they do not ask
Forrester published a post on 22 January 2026 headlined “B2B buyers make zero-click buying number one”. A buyer who cannot verify you on the page does not send a form to find out. They open the competitor who published the answer.
Diagnosis
Is it a traffic problem or a proof problem?
If visitors arrived on pages answering questions no buyer asks before signing, it is traffic, that one is about what the content is written for. If the traffic matches real buying questions and nothing converts, the page is where the lead is lost.
| What the page says now | What a buyer can check |
|---|---|
| “Trusted by industry leaders” | The named work, the year, a link to what was produced. |
| “4.9 out of 5 from our clients” | A review on a platform you do not control, that opens in a new tab. |
| “Custom pricing, contact us” | A number, and what that number excludes. |
| “Our proven process” | The steps in order, and what lands in the client's inbox at each one. |
| “A team of experts” | Who does the work, and what they did before this. |
| “Results guaranteed” | What is delivered, and by when, the part the vendor controls. |
The left column is not dishonest on its own. It is unverifiable, which during a late-stage visit amounts to the same thing as blank. It is also invisible where it would matter most: Vercel's measurement of its own network, published on 17 December 2024, found that none of the major AI crawlers render JavaScript: GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot included. A rating widget injected by a script is read by no engine at all.
The shortcut that is not one
Why not just write the testimonials?
Because it is illegal, and because it is the easiest thing on your site to disprove.
The rule
The Federal Trade Commission's Rule on the Use of Consumer Reviews and Testimonials, 16 CFR Part 465, was published on 21 August 2024 and took effect on 21 October 2024. It prohibits fake and misleading reviews and testimonials, including ones attributed to people who do not exist, with civil penalties per violation.
The practical problem
A prospect who searches the name under a glowing quote and finds no such person has learned something no copywriting repairs. Invented proof is load-bearing: when it goes, the claims that were true go with it.
The replacement
What do you publish instead of reviews?
Six things. Each one is checkable by a stranger, and none requires a client to write you anything.
A measurement you ran yourself, with the date
We fetched bva.marketing on 23 September 2026 with the official crawler user agents. GPTBot got HTTP 429 on three tries out of three; the others got 200 and an empty page, because the whole document was a 439-byte JavaScript shell whose body held nothing but an empty div. We published that before anything else.
The method, step by step
Not “our proven process”. The real order of operations, what the client receives at each step, and what happens when a step fails.
Named deliverables, and the exclusions
“Four articles a month” is a deliverable. “Content strategy” is not. Write down what is not included too: that is the part the buyer is quietly trying to work out.
The price
Ours is on the home page: $497 one time, $1,497 a month, $2,997 setup plus a performance fee agreed in writing. A published price filters out the enquiries that were never going to close, and it is one of the few facts about you an answer engine can lift and attribute.
A commitment limited to what you control
We send the audit in writing, usually within two business days, no call required. We do not promise a ranking or a date when an engine will re-crawl you, because neither is ours to give. A narrow promise that holds beats a wide one that cannot.
Who does the work
BVA came out of video and sound production delivered for BMW, KIA, MINI, TF1, C8 and Monuments Nationaux. Those are production credits, not search clients, and saying exactly that, rather than implying otherwise, is this whole article in one sentence.
The second payoff
Does publishing verifiable facts help you get cited by AI?
Yes, and it is the best-evidenced part of the subject.
Aggarwal, Murahari, Rajpurohit, Kalyan, Narasimhan and Deshpande tested content strategies against a 10,000-query benchmark in “GEO: Generative Engine Optimization”, presented at ACM SIGKDD (KDD 2024) in Barcelona in August 2024. Their three top-performing methods were citing sources, adding quotations and adding statistics, reaching a relative improvement of 30 to 40% on their position-adjusted word count metric and 15 to 30% on subjective impression. Keyword stuffing did worse than the untouched page.
A price, a date, a named credit, a measurement with the command that produced it: that is the unit those three methods are made of. The proof you cannot publish honestly and the sentence an engine can quote turn out to be the same problem. G2's March 2026 survey of B2B software buyers found 51% now begin research with an AI chatbot, against 29% in April 2025; G2 runs a software review marketplace, so treat it as a vendor survey.
Afterwards
How will you know whether it worked?
Measured from day one
The status code and readable word count every crawler gets, from the server logs. The buying questions the site appears for. The AI answers that name you, and who is named beside you. Leads attributed to the page that produced them.
What you will not get from us
A date for a ranking, a predicted lift, or a money-back guarantee. Fixes land the day they ship and appear in an engine when it next re-crawls you; we send you that date from the logs. Growth is month to month, and you keep everything produced if you leave.
Questions
Straight answers.
What do I put on my website if I don't have testimonials yet?
Publish what a buyer can check without asking you: a measurement you ran yourself, with its date; the method step by step, with what is delivered at each one; the deliverables and the exclusions; the price; a commitment limited to what you control; and who does the work.
Are fake reviews actually illegal in the United States?
The FTC's Rule on the Use of Consumer Reviews and Testimonials, 16 CFR Part 465, was published on 21 August 2024 and took effect on 21 October 2024. It prohibits fake and misleading reviews and testimonials, including ones attributed to people who do not exist, with civil penalties per violation.
Will publishing my prices cost me leads?
It costs you the enquiries from people who were never going to pay it, which arrive as leads and leave as wasted calls. A published price is also one of the few facts about you an answer engine can quote. Ours are on the home page: $497 one time, $1,497 a month, $2,997 setup.
My site gets traffic but no leads. Is it the content or the page?
Check both. If visitors arrive on articles that answer questions no buyer asks before signing, it is a content problem. If the traffic matches real buying questions and nothing converts, the page is where it is lost, and the usual reason is that it holds nothing a stranger can verify.
